Role of a Personal Support Worker (PSW):

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) works in a Long Term Care/Retirement Home setting, under the direction of a regulated health care provider (RN/RPN), to provide homemaking, personal care and related Activities of Daily Living (ADL). If other request for assistance is needed, services may include: companionship, emotional support and respite/palliative care.

 

Key Duties include:

·         Report observations in the client’s condition, especially changes from normal behavior

·         Performing personal care; such as – assisting with stabilization, walking, standing and sitting

·         Performing client care according to the agreed upon Client Care Plan

·         Assisting with health care routines; like reminder to maintain dietary restrictions, medication regimen, and recommended exercises (ROM’s); teaching of safety management skills, while promoting independence

·         Report emergency situation(s) to Charge Nurse and/or Staff Nurse

 

Personal Support Worker (PSW) Requirements:


- Availability and commitment to shift(s) assigned is a requirement. Services are provided 24-hours 7 days per week, including holidays. We will work with your availability.
- Valid Police Clearance Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Check are a MUST.
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate a MUST.

-Valid Medical (T.B. Check/Mantoux Screening) a MUST.

- Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to build a positive rapport and trusting relationships with clients.
- Reliability, punctuality and ability to demonstrate high concentration and considerable patient care when attending to client needs a MUST.
- Ability to complete work efficiently and thoroughly within a limited time frame.
- Minimum of 9 month(s) to 2 year(s) of solid Support Worker experience a MUST.
- Posses a recognized Personal Support Worker (PSW) diploma a MUST.
